why measure this
Most developers can't tell you their median save-to-result time. They have a gut feel ("it's pretty fast") that is almost always wrong by a factor of 2-5×. The histogram matters more than the average: a fast loop with a long tail still derails you whenever the tail hits. Run this for an hour. Look at the shape. Decide if you want to keep it.
